Accelerator: NcodiN raises 3.5 million euros to revolutionize AI processors in the semiconductor industry with advanced optical interposer technology

NcodiN, a pioneering company specializing in optical interconnect technology, has successfully secured €3.5 million from leading European Deeptech investors, such as Elaia, Earlybird and OVNI Capital.

This startup, accelerated by 21st by CentraleSupelec aims to revolutionize the semiconductor industry and address the need for innovative technologies for processors dedicated to High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). NcodiN is poised to ignite a true revolution in the industry with its innovative approach, tailored to meet the needs of players such as: Nvidia, Intel, and Qualcomm. With the explosion of AI, the evolution in processor size and performance is a crucial point: key industry players are eagerly awaiting the company's MVP, which will pave the way for the adoption of optical interconnects in future generations of processors.

Major semiconductor groups have recently shifted their paradigm in processor design by adopting disaggregated architectures, where a set of "chiplets" is packaged on - and interconnected by - an interposer chip. Traditional electrical interconnects, based on copper wires, have reached their limit and represent the main bottleneck in the roadmap for these advanced systems. Optical interconnects are essential to break the "copper wall".

Unlike its competitors, NcodiN leverages unique, proprietary technology that delivers unparalleled performance and energy efficiency, paving the way for Petabit/second data traffic with an energy budget of less than 100 fJ/bit. NcodiN's "secret sauce" lies in the on-chip integration of highly miniaturized nanolasers and nanodetectors, which enable ultra-high integration density – over 10,000 components per cm². This technology unlocks high-speed, reliable, and extremely energy-efficient data transmission, paving the way for ultra-high-performance processor architectures capable of executing extremely demanding computations for users.
