Starting a business during your Bachelor's: a look back at the Bachelor of Global Engineering afterwork event

The Bachelor: The perfect time to get started

"Is this really the right time to start a business?" This is often the first question students with an idea in mind ask themselves. It is also the question this afterwork event aimed to answer.

Our answer is clear: there is no such thing as a "perfect time" to start a business. But the Bachelor program comes very close. It is a period where you can explore an idea, test a problem, or join a project, all while minimizing financial risk.

Support on both sides of the Atlantic

To move from idea to action, Bachelor of Gloabl Engineering students can rely on two complementary ecosystems.

In Paris, 21st by CentraleSupélec opens the doors to its ecosystem: coaching from the earliest stages of a project, access to the CentraleSupélec FabLab for prototyping, around fifty events per year, and learning expeditions at STATION F.

In Montreal, the McGill Engine Centre offers its TechAccel program, grants, Summer Startup Internship Awards, and a packed calendar of events.

Launch of the Global Engineering Entrepreneurship Grant

The evening also featured a highly anticipated announcement: the launch of the Global Engineering Entrepreneurship Grant. Co-funded by CentraleSupélec and McGill University, this initiative will support up to four projects in March 2027, following a pitch competition. Each winning project will receive 5,000 CAD, or approximately 3,200 euros.

The grant is open to all Global Engineering students, regardless of their year of study. The key selection criteria: validation of Customer Discovery and the Business Model Canvas.

A student testimonial to wrap up

Remy Ward, a second-year Bachelor of Global Engineering student, then shared his experience as a student entrepreneur. The conversation continued more informally over pizza.

A bridge between two ecosystems

This partnership with the McGill Engine Centre builds a bridge between two ecosystems and fosters the emergence of high-impact, innovative projects. We thank our partners for their trust in this transatlantic adventure.

A big thank you to Katya Marc and Nicolas Cadet for organizing and hosting the evening, and to Remy Ward for sharing his story.

Curious, have an idea, or just thinking about it? Everyone has to start somewhere. The 21st by CentraleSupélec team is here to talk it through with you.
