Anaerobic digestion is hitting a wall: the production cost of biomethane is two to three times higher than that of fossil-based gas. This is because anaerobic digesters do not exploit the full potential of biogas, as nearly 40% of it is released into the atmosphere as CO₂.
Epiqor provides a concrete solution: turnkey technology that transforms this CO₂ into green methane, resulting in a 60% increase in annual green gas production per digester. The system connects directly to CO₂ exhaust vents and produces gas ready for injection into the grid. At a time when Europe is seeking to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, Epiqor helps accelerate local green gas production and secure national energy sovereignty.
The next step
Epiqor is preparing its pilot, expected by the end of 2027. The team is currently working to validate the technology's performance at the laboratory scale while developing the pilot system's engineering—an essential phase for testing the solution under representative conditions, and subsequently in real-world conditions.
Why 21st by CentraleSupélec?
Transforming a scientific promise into an industrial system that meets the requirements of anaerobic digesters is the core challenge driving the Epiqor engineers. Joining the 21st by CentraleSupélec and AgroParisTech accelerator provides the opportunity to access a network of world-class laboratories and benefit from the experience of entrepreneurs and industrial partners to make the best technical and strategic choices. It is the ideal springboard for moving from the laboratory to the market.
